A search began around 8:20 p.m., and about 30 minutes later, John was found fully clothed and face down in approximately three feet of water near the Duke Energy hydro dam on 99 Island Road.<\/p>\n A friend immediately pulled him from the river while emergency medical personnel worked desperately to save his life. Despite their efforts, John could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler identified John as a resident of Edgefield Road in York County.
