In Loving Memory of Alex and Joey McCarthy, Five Young Lives Lost in the M9 Tragedy.<\/h3>\n

Alex McCarthy and Joey McCarthy were among the five teenagers whose lives were tragically cut short in the devastating M9 motorway collision near Moone, County Kildare, on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Their loved ones have shared a heartfelt tribute, asking people to fill Facebook with blue hearts in memory of the two cousins: Alex McCarthy \ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99<\/strong> and Joey McCarthy \ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc99<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The heartbreaking crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. when a BMW was travelling in the wrong direction on the northbound carriageway of the M9 and collided head-on with a Hyundai. Five teenagers travelling in the BMW were killed in the horrific impact, leaving families, friends and communities devastated.<\/p>\n

Local reports have linked the victims to the Carlow and Kildare areas. Alex and Joey are being remembered as beloved family members whose lives and futures were taken away far too soon. The grief surrounding their deaths is immense, and their loved ones are now left with memories that will forever be treasured.<\/p>\n

The Hyundai involved in the collision was carrying three women and a seven-year-old child who were reportedly travelling toward Dublin Airport. All four occupants were hospitalised with serious or critical injuries.<\/p>\n

Garda\u00ed are investigating the circumstances of the collision, while Fiosr\u00fa, Ireland\u2019s police watchdog, is also conducting an independent investigation because of previous Garda interaction with the BMW.<\/p>\n

As the community mourns, the blue-heart tribute has become a simple but powerful way for people to show their love and respect for Alex and Joey.<\/p>\n
