Columbia Police responded to the Colony Apartments at approximately 5:40 p.m. after Erin was shot. Authorities later determined that the child fired the gun himself. According to police, Thompson allegedly left the firearm unattended in a room with the toddler, fled the scene after the shooting, did not render aid, and later disposed of the weapon. Thompson has been charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.<\/p>\n
