Six-month-old Dakari Lomax of Chicago, Illinois, lost his precious young life following a devastating crash in Harvey, while Latasha M. Hope, 33, of Hazel Crest, faces serious charges in connection with the tragedy that forever changed the lives of those who loved this innocent child.<\/p>\n
The heartbreaking crash happened Sunday evening over Labor Day weekend on northbound I-57 near 147th Street. Authorities said Hope was driving a red Ford SUV carrying another woman, four toddlers, and baby Dakari when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a light pole. Police said none of the children were secured in child safety seats.<\/p>\n
Dakari was rushed to an area hospital, but despite efforts to save him, the tiny six-month-old did not survive. His death leaves behind a sorrow that words can barely describe.<\/p>\n
At an age when life should have been nothing but warmth, gentle embraces, innocent smiles, and the promise of countless tomorrows, Dakari\u2019s journey came to an unimaginable end.<\/p>\n
Hope was later taken into custody after being released from the hospital and faces charges including reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence involving death, and child endangerment resulting in death.<\/p>\n
But beyond the charges and investigation is a little boy whose life was precious and whose absence will be deeply felt.<\/p>\n
Dakari may have lived only six months, but his life mattered. His memory deserves to be spoken with tenderness, his name remembered with love, and his story never forgotten.<\/p>\n
