MOHAVE VALLEY, ARIZONA — The Mohave Valley community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Richard Anthony Cruz, 39, who died following a tragic all-terrain vehicle collision early Saturday morning, August 8. His unexpected passing has left family, friends, and loved ones grieving a life that ended far too soon.

 

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 5:09 a.m. to an area north of Kingsley Street and Dike Road after receiving reports of an ATV collision. When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle overturned on its side. Two occupants were located at the scene, while a third man was discovered pinned beneath the ATV and was pronounced deceased.

 

The victim was later identified as Richard Anthony Cruz of Mohave Valley.

 

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Crash Team are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities reported that the occupants had reportedly consumed alcohol earlier in the evening before going on a night ride. Investigators said Richard was operating the ATV when it accelerated, lost control, and overturned, ejecting the two male occupants. One passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

 

Authorities indicated that alcohol, speed, and the absence of restraints may have contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

 

Yet beyond the investigation and circumstances of the collision was a human life filled with memories, relationships, and moments that mattered.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we remember Peter Yamaguchi, a 51-year-old man whose life was tragically taken following a traffic collision on Kamehameha Highway in the Haleiwa area.

 

On Wednesday morning, a moped collision was reported to the Honolulu Police Department at approximately 11:23 a.m. Peter was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway when, for reasons that remain unknown, his moped traveled toward the right side of the roadway. He subsequently lost control and was ejected onto the unimproved shoulder area.

Emergency Medical Services responded and transported Peter to an area hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved too severe, and he sadly succumbed to them. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Behind every traffic fatality is a human being—a person with a life, a story, loved ones, memories, hopes, and dreams. Peter was more than a name associated with a tragic accident. He was a 51-year-old man whose life mattered and whose passing leaves an absence that cannot simply be measured in statistics.

At the time of the collision, Peter was not wearing a helmet.
