In Loving Memory of Ian Roberts, A Community Holds Onto Hope Amid a Desperate Search.
With heavy hearts, the community continues to stand together in concern and prayer for 24-year-old Ian Roberts, whose disappearance has prompted an extensive search throughout the American River Canyon near Auburn, California. As loved ones wait for answers, countless search-and-rescue personnel have devoted their time, strength, and expertise to bringing Ian home safely.
Search operations began after investigators determined that Ian had parked at Overlook Park before hiking into the American River Canyon area on Friday, August 21. On Sunday, approximately 100 search and rescue personnel from numerous agencies joined the effort, supported by K9 teams, drones, marine units, and aerial resources.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit searched along the American River, while Falcon 30 assisted from above and helped transport searchers. Additional aerial intelligence was also requested through Cal OES and FIRIS to strengthen the search.
The operation was scheduled to conclude around 5 p.m. for the safety of ground crews before darkness, with plans to resume at first light Monday morning.
At this difficult time, our thoughts remain with Ian’s family, friends, and everyone who loves him. His absence has undoubtedly left a painful emptiness, and the uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts is heartbreaking.
