A Life’s Journey Silenced Along the Highway.
Some losses arrive without warning, leaving behind a silence that words can never fully fill. On September 9, 2026, that silence fell along Highway 244 in Union County, Oregon, where 84-year-old Marvin Joseph Mason of Kennewick, Washington, lost his life in a tragic motorcycle crash.
Around 1:04 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to the single-vehicle collision near milepost 37, close to the Grande Ronde River. Mason had been riding a gray BMW motorcycle when, for reasons still unknown, he left the roadway and crashed near the riverbank. Another motorcyclist, Dean Allen Moore, 73, of Richland, Washington, had been traveling with him and realized Mason was no longer behind him. Moore turned back, searching until he discovered Mason and the wreckage.
Mason was pronounced deceased at the scene. Moore, thankfully, was not injured.
