Fatal Floyds Knobs Crash Claims Julia Christie, Dalton Smith Faces Expected Charges.
FLOYDS KNOBS, Ind. — Julia Christie, 23, was killed in a fatal two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 150 and Lawrence Banet Road, while Dalton Smith, 32, of Georgetown, Indiana, was identified as the driver of the other vehicle and is expected to face formal charges as the investigation continues.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office said officers and emergency personnel responded to the crash at approximately 12:15 p.m. on August 29, 2026, after receiving a report of a motor vehicle collision involving injuries. Upon arrival, first responders determined that one of the drivers had died as a result of the crash.
According to the preliminary investigation, Smith was driving a blue 2013 Ford Focus northbound on U.S. 150 near Lawrence Banet Road. Christie was operating a black 2008 Honda Accord and was attempting to make a left turn from southbound U.S. 150 onto Lawrence Banet Road.
The Ford Focus and Honda Accord collided within the intersection. Christie was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding authorities.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the location to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision. Investigators are working to determine the precise factors that contributed to the crash.
Authorities have indicated that formal charges are expected for Smith. However, the investigation remains active, and further details could be released as investigators continue their examination of the evidence.
The sheriff’s office reminded the public that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
