Jonathan Tellez-Sosa, 25, of Peñitas, and Brianna Yatziri Saucedo, 19, of Mission, were killed in a devastating head-on collision in Hidalgo County late Thursday night, August 14. The crash also left two other people critically injured, while the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Authorities have not identified a suspect or announced any criminal charges in connection with the crash.

According to preliminary information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred at approximately 9:26 p.m. on Texan Road, south of Freedom Avenue and north of Palmview.

Investigators said Tellez-Sosa was driving a blue Ford Fusion southbound on Texan Road when a silver Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound crossed into the southbound lane. The two vehicles then collided head-on, resulting in catastrophic injuries.

Tellez-Sosa suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Saucedo, who was traveling as a passenger in the Chevrolet Malibu, also died at the scene.

Two other people involved in the crash were critically injured. Both were transported to McAllen Medical Center for emergency medical treatment, where they remained in critical condition according to the latest available information.

The deadly collision has left families and loved ones facing an unimaginable loss. Jonathan and Brianna were both young, with years of life ahead of them, making the sudden tragedy especially painful for those who knew and loved them.

DPS investigators continue working to determine why the Malibu crossed into the opposing lane and what circumstances may have contributed to the collision. Authorities are examining the vehicles, roadway, physical evidence, and other available information as they reconstruct what happened.

At this time, officials have not announced whether citations or criminal charges will follow. Any such determination will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
