A Life Remembered, A Gentle Soul Never Forgotten.
In loving memory of Lewis C. Holmes, an 83-year-old Clanton man whose life came to a heartbreaking end following a traffic crash Friday in Shelby County, Alabama. In a single devastating moment, a journey that had carried him through more than eight decades of life was brought to an unexpected close.
The crash happened around 1:55 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 280 and Alabama 76, about one mile west of Childersburg. Holmes was driving a Toyota Highlander when his vehicle was struck by a Lincoln Navigator driven by 59-year-old Sidney Tankersley of Sylacauga. Holmes was taken to Coosa Valley Medical Center, where, despite efforts to save him, he later passed away.
Tankersley was also injured and transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
But beyond the roadway, the vehicles, and the investigation was a human life—a man who had lived 83 years filled with moments, memories, conversations, challenges, and joys. A lifetime cannot be measured by a headline or a few lines in a report.
Today, we pause to remember Lewis and the years he was given. May his memory remain a quiet light in the hearts of those who knew him, and may those facing this painful loss find strength in the memories that time can never take away.
