The heartbreaking crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. when a BMW was travelling in the wrong direction on the northbound carriageway of the M9 and collided head-on with a Hyundai. Five teenagers travelling in the BMW were killed in the horrific impact, leaving families, friends and communities devastated.
Local reports have linked the victims to the Carlow and Kildare areas. Alex and Joey are being remembered as beloved family members whose lives and futures were taken away far too soon. The grief surrounding their deaths is immense, and their loved ones are now left with memories that will forever be treasured.
The Hyundai involved in the collision was carrying three women and a seven-year-old child who were reportedly travelling toward Dublin Airport. All four occupants were hospitalised with serious or critical injuries.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the collision, while Fiosrú, Ireland’s police watchdog, is also conducting an independent investigation because of previous Garda interaction with the BMW.
