Jimmy Brugger and his beloved wife, Mindy, will be remembered as two extraordinary souls whose compassion, courage, and dedication brought hope to countless people. Their heartbreaking deaths have left a deep void in the Highland and Hudson Valley communities, where their years of service, kindness, and devotion to others created a legacy that will not easily fade.

Jimmy, 66, spent decades answering calls when others needed help most. His journey in the fire service began as a volunteer with the Plattekill Fire Department in 1987 before leading to a distinguished career with the Poughkeepsie Fire Department. After more than 27 years of professional service, he retired in 2025, but his commitment to helping others never ended. He continued volunteering with the Milton Fire Department and served as a respected fire instructor, passing his knowledge and experience on to others.

Mindy shared that same spirit of compassion. As a certified EMT and CPR instructor, she dedicated herself to protecting and helping those in need.

Together, the couple became an example of service and selflessness. In 2016, while preparing to travel from Stewart International Airport, Jimmy and Mindy helped save the life of a man suffering a massive heart attack. Their quick response and determination helped give him another chance at life.

Jimmy also bravely advocated for greater recognition of cancer among firefighters after battling prostate cancer himself. His work reflected his determination to protect those who had spent their lives protecting others.

Today, Jimmy and Mindy are remembered with love, gratitude, and profound sorrow. Their story is one of service, devotion, courage, and compassion—a legacy that will continue through every person they helped and every life they touched.
