In loving memory of six-month-old Dakari Lomax, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating Labor Day weekend crash in Harvey, Illinois. Latasha M. Hope, 33, of Hazel Crest, was arrested in connection with the crash after authorities said the red Ford SUV she was driving left the roadway and struck a light pole on I-57.
The heartbreaking collision happened Sunday, September 6, around 5:46 p.m. near 147th Street. Dakari and several other young children were transported to an area hospital with varying injuries. Despite efforts to save him, little Dakari was later pronounced deceased at Ingalls Memorial Hospital.
At just six months old, Dakari had barely begun his journey through life. He should have had countless birthdays ahead, first steps to take, laughter to fill a home, and years of precious memories waiting to be made. Instead, his family is now facing the unbearable silence left by his absence.
For his mother, Teairra Wright, the loss is a devastating pain no parent should ever have to endure. A fundraiser has been established to help the family with funeral and memorial expenses and provide support during this unimaginable time.
Authorities said none of the children were secured in child safety seats. Hope faces charges including reckless homicide, aggravated DUI involving death, and child endangerment resulting in death. The charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
