A Life Remembered, A Light That Will Never Fade.
In the quiet hours of Wednesday evening, a heartbreaking tragedy claimed the life of Matthew Greer, 40, of Erwin, Tennessee, leaving behind a silence that no words can truly fill. Matthew was attempting to cross West Market Street near Hopper Road in Johnson City when he was struck by a pickup truck at approximately 8:50 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
One ordinary moment became a devastating goodbye, reminding us how fragile and precious every life can be. Matthew’s journey ended far too soon, leaving memories that will now live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community where his life touched others.
There are some losses that cannot be measured by time or explained by words. A person may leave this world, but the moments they shared, the smiles they gave, and the memories they created remain like quiet echoes—returning when least expected and reminding us that their life mattered.
As the investigation continues, authorities have reported that there was no preliminary indication that speeding, driver distraction, or impairment contributed to the crash. The circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain under investigation by the Johnson City Police Department’s crash reconstruction team.
Today, we pause to remember Matthew Greer—a life that deserved more tomorrows, more memories, and more moments beneath the Tennessee sky.
May his memory remain a gentle light in the darkness, and may all who mourn his passing find strength in the memories he left behind.
Rest peacefully, Matthew Greer. You will not be forgotten. 🕊️💔
