Shelden’s Light Will Never Fade, Remembering a Beloved Child Taken Far Too Soon.

Last night, I couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned for what felt like hours until Abbey came into my room feeling sick and overwhelmed by panic. At only 13, she was hurting, grieving, and trying to understand a loss no child should ever have to face. As I held her close while she quietly cried herself to sleep, my heart kept returning to Katie and the unimaginable pain of losing a child.

I felt cheated for her. Heartbroken for her. I hurt for Shelden’s family, for everyone who loved him, and for an entire community now trying to make sense of a tragedy that never should have happened.

I didn’t know Shelden as closely as others did, but I knew him as the goofy, lovable kid who went to church with my children and my dear friend. I knew him through the stories Abbey and her best friend Emma shared—the funny things he said, the silly things he did, and the ordinary moments that have suddenly become precious memories.

Shelden was only 13. He was kind, silly, full of life, and had so much more ahead of him. His story should have continued with birthdays, laughter, friendships, dreams, and countless memories still waiting to be made.

My heart aches for Katie, his family, his friends, the children who knew and loved him, and every family affected by this heartbreaking loss.

May Shelden’s memory live on through every story, every smile, and every life he touched.

Rest peacefully, Shelden. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.
