The Lake County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Lars Ewing, 49, a lifelong Lake County resident, devoted father of five, veteran, civil engineer, and longtime public servant. Lars was tragically killed Friday morning in a head-on collision with a semi truck on Highway 20 in Colusa County, leaving behind a family and community struggling to comprehend a loss that came far too soon.

Lars’s life was defined by service and dedication. Born and raised in Lakeport, he graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1995 before earning a civil engineering degree from the United States Air Force Academy. He proudly served five years as an Air Force civil engineering officer, reaching the rank of captain, before returning home to devote years of his life to Lake County.

From his work as Public Services director to his leadership of the consolidated Public Works Department, Lars dedicated himself to helping build, maintain, and serve the community he called home.

His passing came just one day after his unexpected resignation from the county, a circumstance that has understandably left many with questions. Yet those unanswered questions should never overshadow the human being behind the title—the father, husband, veteran, engineer, colleague, and friend whose life touched so many.

Now, five children and a grieving family must face a world suddenly changed. No words can truly ease such pain. But memories remain—quiet reminders of a life that mattered, a life of purpose, courage, and service.

Today, we pause to remember Starr Nicole Lashua, 44, of Bradenton, Florida, whose life was tragically cut short, leaving behind a sorrow that words can scarcely express.

Nicole was more than a name and more than a heartbreaking headline. She was a person with her own story, her own dreams, her own memories, and a life that held meaning. Her journey should have continued with countless more mornings, peaceful sunsets, laughter, conversations, and precious moments still waiting to be lived.

Starr Nicole Lashua, 44, of Bradenton, Florida, was tragically killed, and Quazone Elijawun Taylor, 34, also of Bradenton, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death. Behind Starr’s name was a woman who had a life filled with moments, memories, hopes, and dreams—yet her story was brought to a heartbreaking end far too soon.

As the investigation continues, authorities say evidence gathered during a separate stabbing investigation ultimately connected Taylor to Starr’s death. Taylor was already being held at the Manatee County Jail after being arrested in connection with the stabbing of a 15-year-old boy. Detectives said witness interviews and forensic evidence helped lead investigators to the murder warrant, which was served on September 10.

But beyond the investigation, the charges, and the heartbreaking circumstances is Starr herself—a person whose life mattered. She was more than a name in a case. She was a human being who had her own memories, her own struggles, her own laughter, and her own place in the lives of those who knew her.

Some losses are especially difficult to put into words—the kind that leave a silence behind where love, laughter, and familiar voices once filled the days. On Friday, tragedy claimed the lives of Factoryville residents Jennifer Olsen, 54, and her mother, Diane Olsen, 77, following a heartbreaking single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 81 in Lackawanna County.

The crash happened shortly after 3:15 p.m. near the Clarks Summit interchange in South Abington Township, when the vehicle carrying the mother and daughter overturned in the northbound lanes. Both Jennifer and Diane were taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where they later succumbed to the injuries they suffered.

A mother and daughter, side by side in life, were suddenly taken from this world together. Their passing is a painful reminder of how quickly an ordinary journey can become a moment of unimaginable sorrow.

Jennifer, 54, had so much life behind her and, surely, countless memories still ahead. Diane, 77, carried decades of experiences, love, and memories that will now live on through those who knew them. Though the circumstances of their final journey were tragic, their lives were far more than the accident that took them.

As investigators continue working to understand what caused the crash, two families and a community are left facing an emptiness that words cannot easily fill.

A Father’s Love Lives Beyond Goodbye.

Some losses leave a silence that words can never fill. In loving memory of Alex Ramos, a devoted husband, father, son, and hardworking tow truck driver whose life was tragically taken while he was simply doing his job and helping someone in need.

Alex was working roadside on Tunxis Avenue in Bloomfield, responding to a tow call and loading a vehicle, when he was struck and killed Tuesday night. In an instant, a husband lost his future with the woman he loved, a mother lost her son, and two precious young children—just 4 and 1 years old—lost the father whose presence should have filled their childhood with laughter, guidance, protection, and love.

Behind every tow truck is a person who answers calls when others are stranded. They work through darkness, traffic, rain, cold, and dangerous roadside conditions, often putting their own safety at risk to help complete strangers get home. Alex was doing that service when tragedy found him.

No donation can ever replace Alex. No amount of money can erase the emptiness his family now carries. But kindness can help lighten the burden left behind. Funds being raised will assist with funeral and final expenses, with remaining support helping his wife and young children navigate the difficult days ahead.

Two Lives Lost in a Fiery I-81 Tragedy.

Some tragedies happen in an instant, leaving behind a silence that words can never truly fill. On Thursday evening, Interstate 81 in Frederick County, Virginia, became the scene of a devastating crash that claimed the lives of two truck drivers, Russell R. Haskins, 64, of Altavista, and Jeffrey J. Hudnell, 52, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

According to authorities, the collision unfolded around 8:10 p.m. near Exit 310 when a passenger car entering southbound I-81 failed to yield, crossed two lanes and struck a tractor-trailer. The impact sent the tractor-trailer through the median and into a northbound truck carrying oxygen tanks. A violent fire erupted, followed by explosions that intensified the devastation.

Haskins died at the scene. Hudnell suffered serious injuries and later passed away at an area hospital. Two men who were simply doing their jobs and traveling the highway never made it home.

The crash also damaged nearby vehicles and caused a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office vehicle to catch fire, though the deputy inside was thankfully not injured.

The passenger-car driver, Mario A. Saldivar-Romaro of Rockingham, was not injured and was charged with reckless driving. Additional charges remain possible as the investigation continues.

The two were traveling in a Chevrolet Silverado on U.S. Highway 71 South when a collision with a Ford occurred. The impact was devastating, leaving the Silverado overturned and turning an ordinary morning into a heartbreaking moment that families will never forget.

Leslie and Penny were more than names written in a crash report. They were lives filled with memories, familiar voices, shared moments, and people who cared deeply for them. Their sudden absence leaves behind an emptiness that words can never fully describe.

Two other people, Richard Roberts, 48, of Huntington, and Kelsey Hamilton, 24, of Huntington, were injured and taken to area hospitals. While their recovery continues, the families of those lost must face the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye far too soon.

According to the Blair County Coroner’s Office, authorities were called to Conemaugh Nason Medical Center Emergency Department after Michael succumbed to injuries sustained in the devastating collision. The crash occurred on Interstate 99 near mile marker 19.4, leaving behind a silence that words can never fully express.

Michael’s passing is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly an ordinary day can become a moment of unimaginable sorrow. One moment, a journey was underway; the next, a life had been forever changed. At 63, Michael still carried memories, experiences, hopes, and countless moments that mattered to those whose lives he touched.

Though the circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated, the pain of losing a life remains painfully real. An autopsy is scheduled as authorities continue working to understand what happened.

His Honda CR-V collided with a Kia Sorento near Fallowfield Road and Old Richmond Road, and both vehicles caught fire. Brahmjot became trapped inside his vehicle and tragically died at the scene. The other driver was hospitalized with serious injuries as authorities began working to understand how the heartbreaking collision occurred.

Brahmjot had moved to Canada only about two years ago, carrying with him the hopes, dreams, and possibilities of a young life still unfolding. At 26, there should have been countless mornings ahead, new memories waiting to be made, and dreams still reaching toward tomorrow. Instead, his journey ended far too soon.

Though his time in this world was brief, his life mattered. His presence, his memories, and the moments he shared with those around him will remain long after the sound of that terrible night has faded.

On the night of September 11, 2026, a heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Braceville Township, Ohio, leaving behind a silence that no words can truly fill. Devin Totherow, 25, of Leavittsburg, Ohio, lost his life following a devastating two-vehicle crash on State Route 5 near State Route 82.

Devin was traveling eastbound on his Harley-Davidson Electra Glide when a collision occurred as another vehicle attempted to turn across the roadway. The impact brought a young life to an unexpected and devastating end. Devin was transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Twenty-five years is far too short for a life to reach its full story. There were still mornings to wake up to, roads yet to travel, memories waiting to be made, and moments that should have stretched far into the future. Yet, in an instant, everything changed.

Now, the road he traveled has become a place of remembrance—a painful reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly an ordinary night can become a forever goodbye.
