It is with profound sadness that we remember Debra Jean Stovall, 72, of Beverly, Kansas, who lost her life in a tragic head-on collision along K-156 Highway in Ellsworth County. Her passing has left a deep sense of sorrow among those who knew and loved her, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of family, friends, and members of her community.
According to authorities, the devastating crash occurred around the noon hour Thursday, approximately a quarter mile east of the Barton County line. A westbound Chevrolet Impala crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck that was pulling a trailer. The force of the collision caused the pickup to overturn and burst into flames.
Debra, who was driving the Chevrolet, was pronounced deceased as a result of the crash. Four occupants of the pickup were injured and transported to hospitals in Ellsworth and Claflin. They were identified as 21-year-old Colton Thayne Madden of Saint George, 21-year-old Daniel Leonard Hammeke of Great Bend, 19-year-old Caleb Andrew Harder of Leawood, and 19-year-old Easton David Kaylor of Wichita. Some of the injured were reported to have suspected serious injuries, while others sustained possible injuries.
Authorities confirmed that everyone involved was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
While the circumstances surrounding the crash remain part of the investigation, the greatest loss is the life of Debra Jean Stovall. At 72, she leaves behind memories, relationships, and moments that will continue to live on in those who cared for her.
