Today, we pause with heavy hearts to remember 19-year-old Daten Briar Odom of Brookings, South Dakota, whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating crash in Brookings County.
Shortly before 6 a.m. last Thursday, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 29 near mile marker 140. According to authorities, a Subaru Forester traveling in the wrong direction collided with Odom’s GMC. The impact set off a chain of collisions involving additional vehicles. Tragically, Daten sustained fatal injuries and could not be saved.
At just 19 years old, Daten had so much life still ahead. Dreams yet to be fulfilled, memories yet to be made, and moments that loved ones should have had the privilege of sharing. His passing leaves behind a pain that words can never truly capture.
A life may end in an instant, but the love someone leaves behind does not disappear. Daten will forever remain in the hearts of the family, friends, and everyone who had the blessing of knowing him. The laughter he shared, the kindness he showed, and the memories created during his time on Earth will continue to live on.
