According to the medical examiner, he told paramedics that he had been unable to get up, obtain food, or use the restroom for approximately four days. Responders reportedly found him in extremely poor condition, with clothing saturated by bodily fluids.

Medical records documented severe skin injuries, including blistering, skin detachment, and dead tissue. Tests later confirmed a serious infection involving Streptococcus pyogenes, leading to septic shock, respiratory failure, kidney failure, and other devastating complications.

The medical examiner concluded that failures to recognize and respond to Worthy’s deteriorating condition contributed materially to the circumstances surrounding his death.
